Aunt Nell has launched a series of events that bring together people in the LGBTQ+ community to share stories and build solidarity.
Our unique event format is based on years of designing and running workshops for various projects by Tash and Adam, including those we ran in partnership with Queer Britain while we were making The Quilt podcast series.
The new events are called ‘Queer Story Spaces’, and they are informed by queer values and centred around care. They use treasures from the archives, such as Aunt Nell podcast series and documents from The National Archives, to stimulate conversations between participants. Queer Story Spaces are a way of putting into practice a big plea from Adam and Tash’s book, which is that we all listen to each other more actively, especially between generations. This is how we can strengthen the LGBTQ+ community. They’re run through Aunt Nell’s sister community interest company.
So far we’ve run them in Cardiff, at The Queer Emporium, co-facilitated with Sara Huws, and at Triangle LGBTQ+ Cultural and Community Centre in Deptford, London. The event at Triangle took the form of an afternoon tea. We’ve got another one coming up in the Folkestone Bookshop on Saturday Feb 28th. If you’re interested in co-creating one of these community events with us, get in touch here.
